Jose Astorga is known as the originator of the Seri Indian Ironwood carving industry that burst forward in the early 1960’s de novo, almost overnight. By the late 1960’s Jose and others were carving a host of land, sea and avian animals. This bust of a desert bighorn was Jose’s characteristic style was purchased by David Yetman in 1969. Although there are some cracks in the wood, for its age and size this is a rare and compelling carving.
15-1/2" tall, 8-1/4" wide at horns.
