Jorge Quintana is the most underrated potter from Mata Ortiz. His line work is spectacular and his experimentation with mixing clay bodies is unique. This reddish-brown jar is a mix of two clays, one from the local Mata Ortiz area and another from a clay source he discovered along the highway leading to the border town of Agua Prieta/Douglas, AZ. With this olla, Jorge deliberately left open space in the overall design to show off the clay color.
Purchased from Jorge in December of 2004.
